Following public backlash after changing their 56-year-old logo, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has issued a statement in response.
In its detailed statement, the company said, “If the last few days have shown us anything, it’s how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. You’ve also shown us that we could’ve done a better job sharing who we are and who we’ll always be.”
The popular chain underwent a rebrand as part of its $700 million transformation plan, which included significant investments in TV advertising and a redesigned menu.
The company also updated the logo by removing the image of the restaurant’s “Uncle Herschel” character, which was prominently featured in the original. The new logo features the words “Cracker Barrel’ set against the outline of a yellow barrel. The phrase “old country store” has also been eliminated.
After the rebranding, Cracker Barrel’s stock value dropped by nearly $100 million.
Social media users swiftly criticized the new logo, labeling it as “generic,” “soulless,” and “bland.”
President Trump posted on X, “WTF is wrong with @CrackerBarrel??!,” while actor James Woods stated, “Cracker Barrel was the only place I’d ever stop. No mob fights, a fun corny atmosphere, and delicious food when you’re hungry and tired. I’ll never stop foot in one again.”
In its response, the restaurant chain reassured customers that its core values remain the same, “We know we won’t always get everything right the first time, but we’ll keep testing, learning, and listening to our guests and employees.”
“At the end of the day, our promise is simple: you’ll always find comfort, community, and country hospitality here at Cracker Barrel. Uncle Herschel wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”
