As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic 24% of US establishments increased wages and salaries, offered wage premiums or paid bonuses, according to the latest US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ data.
This phenomenon was particularly marked in accommodation and food services at 46%, health care and social housing at 35% and retail trade at 33%.
Hazard pay was offered temporarily by 6% of establishments and one-time monetary bonuses were paid by 9% of establishments.
Due to the pandemic 35% of establishments increased telework for some or all of their employees of which 60% plan to keep the increases permanent after the pandemic passes.
Furthermore 25% of establishments started offering flexible or staggered work hours to their employees as a result of the pandemic.
