Boeing Defense and the machinists union have tentatively agreed to end a five-week strike in the St. Louis area.
According to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, a vote on Boeing’s five-year contract offer is scheduled for Friday.
The IAM members went on strike on August 4 after 67% voted to reject the company’s final contract offer, which included a 24% overall wage increase over five years and a $4,000 ratification bonus.
The strike involves approximately 3,200 members of IAM District 837, who manufacture Boeing fighter jets.
In a statement, Boeing Defense Vice President Dan Gillian said “We’ve found a path forward on a five-year contract offer that grows wages by 45% on average. It remains the best deal we’ve ever offered to IAM 837, and we encourage our team to vote yes so we can get back to work building amazing products for our customers.”
Gillian states that once the contract is approved, workers will begin returning on Monday evening, and production is expected to return to normal within approximately a week.
