Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent concluded the first round of Madrid trade negotiations with China by confirming the development of a “framework” deal to buy the U.S. branch of the social media company.
Speaking from Madrid, Bessent stated, “It’s between two private parties, but the commercial terms have been agreed upon.”
He also confirmed that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will speak on Friday to discuss the terms.
On Truth Social the President alluded to the deal, posting: “The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. A deal was also reached on a “certain” company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!! President DJT”
U.S. and Chinese trade negotiations will continue in Spain until Wednesday, addressing various pressing issues, including tariffs, export controls, and the upcoming TikTok deadline.
