Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) CEO, Andy Jassy issued a January 4, 2023 statement that read in part, “Between the reductions we made in November and the ones we’re sharing today, we plan to eliminate just over 18,000 roles” He went on say that.several teams will be impacted; and that, the majority of role eliminations will be in Amazon Stores and PXT organizations. This reduction represents about 6% of Amazon’s roughly 300,000-person corporate workforce. Amazon has more than 1.5 million workers total including warehouse staff, making it America’s second-largest private employer after Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT).
The company stated that is working to support those affected, and will be providing packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support..The company plans to communicate its specific layoff decisions starting January 18th.
