Qualcomm Inc. has reportedly finalized a deal with TikTok owner ByteDance Ltd. to supply chips for artificial intelligence data centers, marking a significant victory for the San Diego-based company, which is aiming to expand from smartphone processors into AI infrastructure.
As part of the deal, ByteDance will acquire millions of Qualcomm’s application-specific integrated circuits to support its AI agent software, as part of the deal.
Qualcomm, based in San Diego, manufactures chips via partners like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.
If Qualcomm’s chips comply with legal computing standards, its partners are unlikely to violate US restrictions on producing AI chips for Chinese companies like ByteDance.
Qualcomm’s stock increased by 8.3% after news of the deal broke.
