The aftermath
The aftermath of the riots has already caused three resignations from top security officials amid building pressure from lawmakers who spoke of “shocking failures” in security and court-martialed flops when it came down to defending the nation’s Capit0l while the Congress was in session. Earlier Thursday, U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund resigned his position hours after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others called for his removal.
At 3:41 Thursday morning, Pence finally declared Biden the 46th president of the United States. Donal Trump, temporarily barred from Twitter, said that “Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” per The Washington Post, who made a recount of the event. His hour on the national stage is finally ending with violence against the very structure and core of the nation he was entrusted to protect, violence fomented and encouraged by the president of the United States.
