Call of Duty, Pokémon, and the other best-selling games of 2019.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” earned more than $600 million during its opening weekend in October and had the best digital launch of any “Call of Duty” game to date, making it the top video game of 2019.

It unites the millions of “Call of Duty ” players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC by allowing cross-play and cross-progression, regardless of which version you’re playing. The game also has a cinematic single-player campaign, which “Black Ops 4” lacked. “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” was built on a new engine too, giving the game a major graphical improvement from last year. 2019, according to Dot Esports, also marks the 12th consecutive year that a Call of Duty game has been the best-selling title in its release month. It’s also the best-selling game franchise in U.S. tracked history in total sales.

According to data from the NPD group, originally published by Business Insider, 8 of the top 10 best-selling games of 2019 were direct sequels. The other two games are “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,” which launched a month before the end of the latest blockbuster “Star Wars” film trilogy, and “Anthem,” a new franchise from the creators of the critically-acclaimed “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age” games.

Other entries on the list were:

  • NBA 2K20
  • Madden NFL 20
  • Borderlands 3
  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
