Fast casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is reportedly testing an automated assembly line for its signature burritos and bowls, the company revealed Tuesday.
Chipotle is collaborating with technology startup Hyphen, which Chipotle invested just last year, to create the chain’s new robots.
However, the automated assembly line will supposedly only be used to fulfill digital orders while human staff will continue to create burritos and bowls for customers in-store.
This is Chipotle’s second foray into automation after testing a tortilla chip maker, Chippy, in a California store last year.
