According to a new study conducted by Oxfam, the richest 1% of the world produce the same quantity of carbon emissions per year as the poorest 66% of the global population.
The research went on to find that the richest 10% contribute to 50% of all personal consumption global emissions, while the bottom 50% only contribute to 8% of personal consumption carbon emissions.
One-third of personal consumption carbon emissions by the 1% reportedly came from individuals based out of the United States.
The report also noted that 50% to 70% of personal consumption emissions by the 1% were related to investments in companies.
