Global ocean temperatures reportedly reached the highest levels on record this month since the data started being recorded in 1979.
Data from the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service placed the average daily global sea surface temperature for Aug. 4 at 20.98 degrees Celsius.
This is .2 degrees Celsius higher than the previous average daily global sea surface temperature record, which was set just last month in July.
According to climate scientists, global ocean temperatures are supposed to peak in March and not August, causing alarm about the rising ocean temperatures throughout the scientific community.
