Toy company Lego is no longer pursuing its plans to manufacture its megapopular bricks from recycled plastic bottles, the Financial Times Sunday announced.
Lego previously issued a promise that it would only make its bricks from sustainable materials by the year 2032.
However, after years of testing recycled polyethylene terephthalate and creating prototypes, the company determined that shifting its production toward PET bricks would ultimately contribute more to climate change than its traditional acrylonitrile butadiene styrene bricks.
The announcement highlights the issues faced by corporations attempting to fix their negative environmental contributions.
