On Monday, Brazil’s Amazon River fell to the lowest level seen in more than 100 years.
Levels at the port of Manaus decreased to 13.59 meters Monday, down from 17.6 meters just one year prior.
The news comes following a record drought that’s been sweeping through Brazil over the past months.
According to Brazil’s Ministry of Science, the drought was brought on by the early onset of the El Niño meteorological phenomenon this year.
