According to a new analysis by environmentalists, approximately 41% of the world’s amphibian species are currently at threat of extinction due to climate change.
This is an uptick from a 2004 assessment that placed amphibian species’ extinction threat at 39%.
Meanwhile, the extinction threat for mammal species sits at 27%, reptile species at 21% and avian species at 13% according to other assessments.
“For the most part, protected area identification and conservation planning is geared towards the needs of mammals and birds,” reported conservationist Jennifer Luedtke. “Amphibians are falling through the cracks.”
