The Small Business Administration on Monday released its annual scorecard that assesses how effectively federal agencies attain their small business contract goals each year.
During fiscal year 2023, small businesses were granted 28.4% of federal government contracts, well above the goal of 23%. The total value of the contracts awarded to small businesses amounted to $178.6 billion. According to the SBA, the contracts support more than a million jobs across multiple industries.
Ten agencies earned an A+ for meeting their goals:
- Department of Commerce
- Department of Homeland Security
- General Services Administration
- Department of Housing and Urban Development
- Department of the Interior
- Nuclear Regulatory Commission
- National Science Foundation
- Office of Personnel Management
- Small Business Administration
- U.S. Department of Agriculture
Only two agencies—the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services—earned a B, the lowest grade awarded. The remainder of the federal agencies all scored an A.
