As the National Basketball Association approaches its once-per-decade media rights deal, the NBA’s choice could have a major effect on the media industry as a whole.
According to sources close to the matter, new players like Netflix, NBCUniversal, Amazon, Apple and YouTubeTV will all throw their hat in the ring to earn the rights to broadcast or stream NBA games.
Negotiations are officially expected to begin in April when the NBA’s current deal with Warner Bros. Discovery and the Walt Disney Company reaches its conclusion, with the league expected to pull in a 200% and 350% increase in its upcoming deal.
The NBA’s previous media rights deal was announced in 2014.
