Technology giant Microsoft has hired former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to head the company’s artificial intelligence division, Microsoft announced Monday, just days after Altman was fired from his position at the ChatGPT-4 parent company.
Altman will be joined at Microsoft by OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, who left OpenAI Friday following Altman’s departure.
Microsoft’s shares rose 1.7% during trading Monday following the news of Altman’s hiring.
Meanwhile, OpenAI tapped former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear to replace Mira Murati as its new interim chief executive, marking the company’s third CEO in just three days.
