The United Auto Workers tentative deals with U.S. automaking giants Ford and General Motors may be in jeopardy as some rank-and-file UAW members have voted against ratifying the proposed contracts.
UAW workers at GM’s Flint, Michigan and Spring Hill, Tennessee plants voted no to the contract, with a respective reported turnout of 52% and 68% against the deal.
Likewise, 55% of UAW members at Ford’s Louisville, Kentucky plant voted against the company’s proposed deal with the union.
If the UAW and automakers fail to secure a sufficient number of votes to ratify the tentative deals, the UAW strike against GM and Ford may resume.
