The Natural Gas Supply Association (NGSA) issued the following statement today following the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) vote to modify its natural gas pipeline certificate and greenhouse gas policies.
Dena Wiggins, President and CEO of NGSA, said:
“The orders approved yesterday represent a major overhaul in the way FERC intends to analyze pipeline certificate applications.
“We are very concerned that these revisions will have an immediate chilling effect on pending and future projects. According to EIA, interstate capacity additions were lower in 2021 than at any time since 2016. This is a disturbing trend that will be exacerbated by these revisions.
“I share the concerns raised at the open Commission meeting that FERC’s actions impinge on the existing statutory framework of the Natural Gas Act and arrogate authority to the Commission that can only be exercised by Congress.”
