Following the expiration of labor contracts at midnight Saturday, more than 75,000 unionized Kaiser Permanente health care employees are preparing for a potential strike.
More than 40% of Kaiser Permanente’s permanent staffers, which are represented by a coalition of eight unions, would be called to strike if the two parties fail to reach a deal.
“There can be no agreement until Kaiser executives stop bargaining in bad faith with frontline healthcare workers over the solutions needed to end the Kaiser short-staffing crisis,” said union representative Betsy Twitchell.
If the workers do move to strike, it would be the largest health care strike ever seen in U.S. history.
