On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust trial against multi-trillion-dollar technology giant Google officially began in Washington D.C.
The DOJ has alleged that Google’s business practices have resulted in an illegal monopoly that’s harmed consumers across the United States.
The department’s lawyers purported that Google’s exclusive contracts with mobile carriers and phone manufacturers gave it undue advantage over other search engines in direct violation of federal antitrust laws, allegations Google’s lawyers went on to deny.
The ongoing trial is expected to be a landmark case for technology companies.
