3 generation z myths that may be hurting your hiring process
Share on LinkedinShare on WhatsApp

Generation Z is the youngest generation currently in the workplace. Like millennials before them, there have been many stereotypes created around their work ethic. These stereotypes can cause misconceptions that will affect your workplace. If you’re trying to hire Gen Z employees, you need to know what they’re looking for in a job. Here are three Generation Z myths that could be negatively impacting your hiring process:

Gen Z Employees Don’t Like to Work

One of the Gen Z stereotypes is that they hate work and will do what they can to get out of it. However, according to a survey done by Entrepreneur, 75% of Gen Z employees consider having a career to be fulfilling. They are interested in finding ways for their work to be meaningful. Make sure you help all employees understand the greater purpose of the company and their work to help recruit and retain the best employees.

Gen Z Employees Want Remote Work

Since Generation Z grew up with technology like Facetime, Snapchat, and Zoom, many people believe they would prefer to work online with the tech they’re familiar with, but that is not the case. Many Gen Z employees (2/3 according to the study by Entrepreneur) would rather work in person to build connections with their coworkers and better develop their career. Instead of assuming a new hire wants to work remotely because of their age, offer them the option of working remotely so they can choose. Flexibility is often more appealing than working 100% remote.

Gen Z Employees Don’t Want Management Roles

Entrepreneur’s study found that 66% of Gen Z employees are interested in management roles. When you are looking to hire a Gen Z employee consider emphasizing how their career can grow or how they could transition to a management role. Generation Z employees will find the promise of progress at your company very appealing.

Hiring new employees can be difficult, especially if misconceptions get in the way. Remove these myths from your hiring process find the right employees from every generation to help advance your organization.
