Unemployment rates rose year-over-year in 315 out of 389 US metropolitan areas, while lowering in 54 areas and remaining unchanged 20 areas.
The national unemployment rate in August was 4.4% rising from 3.9% in 2023.
The largest increase in the unemployment rate was in Kokoma, Indiana with a rise of 6.5%. The greatest decrease took place in Yuma, Arizona, with a 2.3% decrease.
The largest employment increases in absolute terms took place in New-York-Neward-New Jersey where 174,000 jobs were added and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim with 99,000.
