December 12 is Green Monday 2022. According to Forbes, this retail tradition is the second largest online shopping day next to post Thanksgiving’s Cyber Monday. Created by eBay in 2007, this annual bargain blitz falls on the second Monday in December, and is generally considered the last safe day to place online orders and have packages arrive in time for Christmas. The word “green” refers only to the money spent on shopping, and not all retailers who participate use Green Monday messaging. Today most major retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, Macy’s, Walmart, and eBay are offering deep discounts on everything from clothing and home goods to laptops and kitchen appliances.
The National Retail Federation predicts that all combined 2022 holiday retail purchases will total approximately $960 billion. According to Deloitte’s latest study,.Americans are expected to spend about $1,455 each this season. That’s around the same as last year’s average of $1,463 per person. However, Deloitte reports that about 50% of shoppers cite higher costs as the reason they’ll be spending that much this year.
