As consumer holiday shopping continues, some major U.S. retailers are saying “no” to kids having a ball this Christmas.
Mega retailers Amazon, Target and Walmart have all reportedly stopped selling water bead balls aimed at the children’s market due to associated risks.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, water ball beads can grow to 100 times their size when exposed to liquid – a major concern if one of the toys was ingested by a child, which “can cause severe discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, intestinal blockages and life-threatening injuries.”
Even if water bead balls sit at the top of children’s wishlists for Santa, it looks like American kids will have to settle for a different present under the Christmas tree this year.
