While Disney’s animated films were once guaranteed to reach the top of the U.S. box office, it looks like the media giant needs to wish on a lucky star to get its latest offerings to the number one slot.
“Wish,” Disney’s newest animated feature, only pulled in $31.6 million over Thanksgiving weekend, far below analysts’ projections of $45 million to $55 million.
The movie only notched the third spot at the box office, trailing behind “Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” and “Napoleon.”
With Disney’s one-time bread and butter seemingly falling out of favor with audiences, perhaps it’s time for the media empire to rethink its approach to movie releases.
