Just weeks after Netflix announced the end of its DVD subscription model, electronics retailer Best Buy announced it will also be hitting the stop button on selling DVDs throughout its U.S. locations nationwide.
According to Best Buy, the chain will end its DVD and Blu-Ray business at the end of the 2023 holiday season.
“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago,” the company said in a statement. “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”
As streaming continues to dominate the future of movie and television content, it looks like consumers soon won’t even be able to find DVDs in the bargain bin.
