Successful talks between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and U.S. top defense officials concluded in Warsaw, where Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared that the ball was “now in Russia’s court” after the negotiations concluded. “If they [Russia] say no, then we’ll unfortunately know what the impediment is to peace here.”
The U.S. intends to speak with Putin within the next 24 to 48 hours to gauge whether Russia is willing to agree to the terms of the ceasefire. If negotiations succeed, it is hoped that proper peace talks can proceed, leading to future security guarantees for Ukraine.
The United States has agreed to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine after Kyiv expressed its willingness to support a ceasefire proposal.
