Fisker, a U.S. maker of electric SUVs, has filed for bankruptcy, the company announced on Tuesday. The company only makes the Fisker Ocean Electric SV, and out of the 10,000 cars made last year, only about half had been delivered to customers by February.
“Like other companies in the electric vehicle industry, we have faced various market and macroeconomic headwinds that have impacted our ability to operate efficiently,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
In February’s published quarterly earnings, Fisker noted that it might not have the funds to last another year, though the company was at the time in discussions with an investor about the possibly of securing more money.
Company founder and CEO Henrik Fisker said in an interview with Automotive News that the SUV had quality problems. However, he claimed that the issue was with software from different suppliers that didn’t work well together, saying that the problems were being addressed through updated.
