President Donald Trump’s administration is expected to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo as a gift during his Middle East tour this week. The jet, from Qatar’s royal family, will be used as Air Force One.
President Trump has reportedly been seeking alternatives to replace the current Air Force One, with Boeing proposing to deliver its new version by 2027.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “So the fact that the Defense Department is getting a GIFT, FREE OF CHARGE, of a 747 aircraft to replace the 40 year old Air Force One, temporarily, in a very public and transparent transaction, so bothers the Crooked Democrats that they insist we pay, TOP DOLLAR, for the plane. Anybody can do that!”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and White House lawyer David Warrington drafted an analysis concluding that the aircraft’s donation would be “legally permissible” if the plane’s ownership is transferred to Trump before his term ends.
Qatar has stated the report is “inaccurate” and a “temporary” plane that may be used as Air Force One is “currently under consideration.”
If accepted, the gift would be the most valuable received from a foreign government.
White House confirmation of the announcement is expected later this week.
