In a sit-down interview with “Meet the Press,” President Trump expressed his desire to extend his pause on the TikTok ban if a deal cannot be reached by June 19.
When asked if he would like to extend the deadline, Trump replied, “I would,” explaining “TikTok… it’s very interesting, but it will be protected.”
Trump admitted that the popular social media app held “a little sweet spot” in his heart due to its popularity with young Americans.
The President’s comments come after he declared a 75-day pause last month on a law that requires TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, to divest from the app or face a ban in the U.S.
Earlier in the year, TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew thanked Trump for his dedication to finding a solution. “On behalf of everyone at TikTok and all our users across the country, I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to work with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States,” he said.
