President Trump has confirmed the scheduled date for a 25% tariff on goods from Mexico and Canada. The President announced the tariff date on Truth Social as March 3, a day after stating during his Cabinet meeting, “April 2nd for everything.”
“Drugs are still pouring into our Country from Mexico and Canada at very high and unacceptable levels,” Trump wrote, “We cannot allow this scourge to continue to harm the USA, and therefore, until it stops, or is seriously limited, the proposed TARIFFS scheduled to go into effect on MARCH FOURTH will, indeed, go into effect, as scheduled.”
An additional 10% tariff on Chinese imports will also be imposed on the same date.
In response to Trump’s announcement, the Canada Border Services Agency launched “Operation Blizzard… aimed at intercepting illegal contraband arriving and leaving Canada, with a focus on fentanyl and other synthetic narcotics.”
