AI poised to pass human tests in 5 years, CEO says

During Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference in San Francisco, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared their perspectives on artificial intelligence safety, which contrasted with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s views, just days after the debate gained widespread attention.

Amodei appeared first on stage alongside Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff during his annual keynote, shortly after releasing an essay over the weekend calling for the industry to slow down the pace of model development.

“I think that’s the way to lead the industry forward, to set an example, to say that everyone can always be better,” Amodei said.

In front of the 12,000 attendees at San Francisco’s Moscone Center, Huang added that speed and safety are not mutually exclusive, though companies should pace themselves until they are sure they are releasing something that the market will appreciate.

The CEO of the world’s most valuable company stated that market forces are already in place and that additional laws or regulations are unnecessary for the industry.

“It’s a false choice,” Huang said. “You could definitely have both at the same time.”

Huang said model developers must act responsibly. “Run as fast as you can,” he said. “But if you feel at any given point in time the company’s out of control or the product’s not going to be safe, take a pause and make sure you get it right.”

Huang’s comments follow his onstage appearance this week in Los Angeles for the All-In Summit, where he took a call from President Donald Trump. On speakerphone, the president expressed concern about people trying to stand in the way of AI data center construction.

“We’re not going to let that happen, sir,” Huang said to Trump.

On Tuesday, Salesforce and Nvidia revealed a new reasoning model for the Agentforce platform, developed using an Nvidia open-weight Nemotron model. Last month, Salesforce and Anthropic broadened their strategic alliance and introduced “Claudeforce,” a tool that enables sales teams to retrieve vital data directly through Anthropic’s Claude chatbot.

The Dreamforce conference has long been a leading software industry event, drawing around 50,000 attendees to downtown San Francisco and occupying a significant part of the city.
