OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, announced Monday that it has hired Sarah Friar as its first chief financial officer and Kevin Weil as its new chief product officer, both Silicon Valley veterans with experience in managing large tech companies.
Friar most recently served as Nextdoor’s chief executive officer and was previously the CFO for Square, the payment company. OpenAI said she will focus on the company’s mission of “providing continued investment into our core research capabilities.”
Weil co-founded the Libra cryptocurrency, held positions at Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and most recently worked as the president for product and business at Planet Labs, a satellite imagery company. OpenAI said he will focus on applying research to products and services.
“Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth, and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement.
