Nvidia shares have risen 2% following a blog post by Microsoft announcing it has secured export licenses to ship Nvidia chips to the UAE.
Microsoft’s post read: “While the chips are powerful and the numbers are large, more important is their positive impact across the UAE. We’re using these GPUs to provide access to advanced AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source providers, and Microsoft itself.”
Microsoft will also increase its UAE investment to $15.2 billion by decade’s end, including a $1.5 billion equity stake in AI firm G42 and over $5.5 billion in capital expenses for AI and cloud infrastructure expansion.
The tech giant announced it was the first under U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to obtain the export license from the Commerce Department.
The approval, granted in September, was based on “updated and stringent technology safeguards” and will allow the firm to ship the equivalent of 60,400 more A100 chips, involving Nvidia’s more advanced GB300 GPUs.
The announcement follows President Trump’s comments on Sunday, in which he stated that the most advanced Nvidia chips will be reserved for US companies. “The most advanced, we will not let anybody have them other than the United States,” Trump said.
