This morning, Elon Musk shared a video on his X account featuring Milton Friedman, who condemned tariffs and advocated for free trade. The post follows Musk’s public appearances over the weekend, where he spoke out against tariffs between the EU and the U.S.
During a rally on Saturday, Musk appeared via video link alongside Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, expressing his hope for a “zero-tariff situation” between Europe and the United States.
“At the end of the day, I hope it’s agreed that both Europe and the United States should move ideally, in my view, to a zero-tariff situation, effectively creating a free-trade zone between Europe and North America,” Musk stated.
Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti said Italy, aims for a “de-escalation” with the United States over tariffs.
Musk also entered into debate through X, where he condemned the Trump administration’s senior counselor for trade and manufacturing, Peter Navarro. Navarro has been leading the administration through its tariffs.
“A PhD in Econ from Harvard is a bad thing, not a good thing,” Musk posted about Navarro, who has been leading the administration through its tariffs. On Navarro’s qualifications: “He ain’t built sh*t,” Musk concluded.
Musk’s comments follow Trump’s announcement of a 20% tariff on imports from the EU, where Tesla’s growth has already decreased by 49% over the past two months.
