SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on Thursday, July 23, as the date for the next attempt to launch its Starship rocket, the company said in a statement on Sunday.
Musk initially posted on X that the next Starship launch would happen on Friday, later saying, “I mean Thursday,” aligning with the company’s earlier statement.
On July 16, SpaceX’s Starship rocket performed a last-minute abort just before liftoff during its 13th test flight from Texas, resulting in a loss of roughly $100 billion in the company’s market value.
SpaceX stated it has upgraded Starship’s propulsion system to fix the engine issue experienced on the previous flight.
On its 13th flight, Starship will carry 20 Starlink satellites to demonstrate its satellite deployment system and the laser communication links of the Starlink network. However, these satellites will follow a suborbital trajectory and burn up in Earth’s atmosphere shortly after deployment.
SpaceX stated that it plans to launch the first Starlink satellites into orbit on Starship by the end of the year, followed by routine launches.
Since 2023, SpaceX has conducted 12 Starship test flights.
