An ongoing conflict between OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, flared up again on X following Apple’s lawsuit against OpenAI over alleged trade secret theft.
Elon Musk and Sam Altman exchanged criticism on X, emphasizing their ongoing conflict over OpenAI’s progress.
In response to an X post about Apple filing a lawsuit against OpenAI on Friday over alleged trade secret theft, Musk commented, “Scam Altman strikes again …” Minutes later Musk wrote, “He takes scamming to a whole new level.”
Musk then responded to several of his own follow-up posts, writing, “He might literally love scamming more than any human alive!”
In response, Altman said, “Homeboy, you’re the one sellling public market investors on short-term space datacenters.” Separately, Altman contextualized Musk’s recent surge of attention with OpenAI’s new model release.
″There are a lot of benchmarks that suggest 5.6 sol is the best model in the world right now, but the most reliable way to tell is that elon is obsessed with me again,” Altman wrote.
″I am not afraid of Apple, but I have tremendous respect for them. s-tier company,” Altman said.
The conflict stems from 2018 when Musk left OpenAI’s board after donating tens of millions to the organization, although he later objected to Altman’s efforts to build “an opaque web of for-profit OpenAI affiliates” in a lawsuit that went to trial in California this year. A jury ruled in favor of Altman, and Musk said he would appeal the case.
Musk and Altman helped establish OpenAI in 2015 as a nonprofit artificial intelligence research lab alongside a team of engineers and scientists.
