McDonald’s reported mixed quarterly results Wednesday, as fewer customers visited its U.S. restaurants, causing domestic same-store sales to dip slightly.
The fast-food giant reported a 0.2% sales decline at its U.S. restaurants open for at least 13 months.
The company reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $2.49 billion, or $3.51 per share, compared with $2.28 billion, or $3.18 per share, a year earlier. Net revenue rose 1% to $7.16 billion.
Excluding restructuring charges and other items, McDonald’s reported earnings of $3.57 per share.
McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a statement, “McDonald’s delivered another quarter of global growth, with solid performance across much of our international business. In the U.S., we’re encouraged by improvement as the quarter progressed following our intervention on value. We’re focused on building from here, strengthening the business today and investing in the next chapter of growth.”
At the company’s September investor day, executives said same-store sales were slightly negative in July and August but expected to return to growth in September.
Last quarter, the company named Skye Anderson, a 26-year McDonald’s veteran, president of McDonald’s USA. Anderson is developing a new value menu for 2027 after franchisees and consumers showed limited interest in the company’s under-$3 offerings.
McDonald’s shares fell 1% following the announcement.
