Vice President Kamala Harris made her concession speech to a gathering of supporters at Howard University hours after the 2024 election winner was confirmed.
In her concession speech, The Vice President encouraged Democratic supporters to stay focused and not lose hope. She said that while she concedes the election loss, “I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign.” She said the battle will carry on “in the voting booth, in the courts, and in the public square.” She rallied supporters by concluding, “Sometimes the fight takes a while. ” She admitted, “That doesn’t mean we won’t win.”
After Trump lost to Biden, he directed his supporters to march on the U.S. Capitol. By accepting the defeat, Harris returned to a tradition that had recently been lost in electoral races – committing to a peaceful transfer of power and the promise to cooperate with the incoming administration. Harris urged her supporters to do the same. “Now, I know folks are feeling and experiencing a range of emotions right now,” she said. “I get it, but we must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”
President Biden’s statement to his Vice President said “She will continue the fight with purpose, determination, and joy. She will continue to be a champion for all Americans. Above all, she will continue to be a leader our children will look up to for generations to come as she puts her stamp on America’s future.”
Republicans will control the Senate, though House control remains uncalled.
