Today, a judge in Pennsylvania – where both presidential candidates will appear on their campaign trail, will decide on Elon Musk’s controversial $1 million-a-day giveaway.
Since October 19, Musk has been giving away a $1 million check every day. The offer is exclusively for registered voters in the battleground states expected to decide the election – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The randomly selected voter, in order to collect the prize, must have signed Musk’s petition supporting free speech and gun rights.
The case began on October 28 when Philadelphia District Attorney and Democrat Lawrence Krasner sued Musk and his Political Action Committee (PAC) in state court. Krasner stated that the program was illegal and that the lottery violated state consumer protection laws. Krasner applied to block Musk from further awarding prizes to voters in Pennsylvania. Today, the case will be decided by a judge in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.
Last week, Musk and the PAC filed to remove the lawsuit from state to federal court. Following this action, Musk neglected to attend his scheduled day in state court, angering DA Krasner’s office. In a statement on Friday, Krasner said, “This ruling is consistent with the argument of the District Attorney that America PAC’s and Mr. Musk’s eleventh-hour effort to take the case away from state court in Philadelphia was contrary to law.”
The hearing comes at an important time for both campaigns. If blocked, it could bring unwanted embarrassment to the Trump campaign, where Musk has been an outspoken supporter.
