Job openings increased in April to their highest level since 2024, according to the latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Tuesday.
7.62 million positions were open in April, while economists expected 6.87 million openings for the month, roughly matching March’s revised level of 6.89 million.
The hiring rate dropped to 3.2%.
Unemployment is at 4.3%, which is below both the 10-year average of 4.6% and the 50-year average of 6.1%.
