As of Wednesday, internet service providers are required by the Federal Communications Commission to give consumers a breakdown of services and costs in a notice that resembles a nutritional label. The information provided includes monthly prices, internet speed range, discounts and bundles, amount of data and other potential charges such as early termination and late fees.
The labels are a result of an FCC ruling in October 2023 stipulating that ISPs with more than 100,000 customers must display the information at the time of purchase for any standalone or fixed internet service, along with mobile broadband plans. The requirement will kick in on October 10 for ISPs with 100,000 or fewer.
