IBM will be transferring its R&D operations in China to other facilities abroad, according to newswire Dow Jones, due to the greater competition it is facing in the Asian giant.
The closure will affect more than 1000 employees working in R&D labs in Shanghai and Peking. These labs mainly develop and test business software.
The company’s China offices occupy Beijing’s 7th tallest building facing the famous Beijing National Stadium. The company had 282,000 employees in 2023
The news was broken to employees in a video call Monday morning by executive Jack Hergenrother.
