Following strikes on Iran by the U.S. and Israel, flights scheduled to land in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been canceled, causing airport chaos worldwide.
According to flight tracking service Flightradar24, more than 4,000 daily flights are canceled in the region. As of Monday, 79% of global flights to Qatar and 71% to the United Arab Emirates have been canceled, based on data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. Additionally, 81% of flights to Israel and 92% to Bahrain have been grounded.
Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, suspended regular flights to and from Dubai until 3 pm local time on Tuesday and cautioned about potential disruptions through Thursday.
Etihad Airways also extended cancellations until 3 pm Tuesday, while Qatar Airways announced that flights to and from Doha were halted because of the closure of Qatari airspace.
Meanwhile, airline and travel stocks fell on Monday as airspace closures across the Middle East led to thousands of flight cancellations worldwide.
United Airlines’ stock dropped by 6%, with shares of Delta Air Lines and American Airlines also declining around 6%.
This morning, Etihad announced it might resume limited flights from its Abu Dhabi hub to reduce congestion.
