Shares of stock-photo company Getty Images Holdings Inc. soared as much as 145% on Monday after it announced a licensing deal with OpenAI.
Under the partnership, Getty Images’ licensed content libraries will appear across OpenAI search and discovery experiences within ChatGPT.
The companies did not reveal financial details or specify whether Getty’s images would be utilized for training future OpenAI models.
In a press release, Craig Peters, Chief Executive Officer at Getty Images, told investors, “High‑quality, licensed visual content makes AI‑powered search and discovery more useful and more trustworthy. This partnership with OpenAI reflects a shared recognition of that, and together we will deliver richer visual experiences to ChatGPT users.”
The company is still waiting for approval to acquire rival Shutterstock Inc. in a $3.7 billion deal.
Getty stock had dropped roughly 55% this year before the announcement.
