Ford announced a new $3.7 billion investment across Michigan, Missouri and Ohio between now and 2026, to build a new Mustang and ramp up production of trucks, vans and electric vehicles.
Ford detailed that $2 billion will go for Michigan assembly plants, an investment that will create 2,000 new jobs and will increase production of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup to 150,000 trucks per year.
An additional $1.5 billion will be invested at its Ohio plant to build a new EV and around $100 million in an engine plant and a transmission factory.
In Missouri, Ford is spending $95 million to add an additional factory shift to produce gas-powered Transit vans and electric E-Transit vans.
According to Ford investments are expected to create 6,200 unionized manufacturing jobs. The job expansions are part of the manufacturers’ plan to ramp up its EV production to two million electric cars per year globally by 2026.
The Michigan based automaker will spend another $1 billion over the next five years to improve the workplace environment at its factories.
The new investments announced are in addition to the $11.4 billion unveiled last year to build new battery manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and Kentucky.
