New giant CNN has tapped former New York Times CEO Mark Thompson as its new CEO and chairman, CNN parent company Warner Bros. Discovery announced Wednesday.
Thompson previously served as the NYT’s top boss from 2012 to 2020, and as general director of the BBC between 2004 and 2012.
“I am confident he is exactly the leader we need to take the helm of CNN at this pivotal time,” said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
Thompson is slated to begin his new role at CNN on Oct. 9.
