Following the end of an outside investigation of OpenAI, CEO Sam Altman has been reinstated to the artificial intelligence company’s board of directors, with the board stating that they have “full confidence” in his leadership.
Law firm WilmerHale led the probe into what caused OpenAI to suddenly terminate Altman last November, then rehire him just a few days later. The firm determine that the firing was the result of a “breakdown in the relationship and loss of trust” between the CEO and the previous board of directors. However, the full report was not released to the public.
“I’m pleased this whole thing is over,” Altman said, while also noting that he’s learned from the situation.
OpenAI has also appointed three new women to its board: Nicole Seligman, a former Sony general counsel; Dr. Sue Demond-Hellman, previously the CEO at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; and Fidji Simo, Instacart CEO.
