Billionaire Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez have pledged $100 million toward the wildfire recovery efforts in Maui, Hawaii, the couple announced Friday on social media.
“Jeff and I are creating a Maui Fund and are dedicating $100 million to help Maui get back on its feet now and over the coming years as the continuing needs reveal themselves,” wrote Sánchez at the time.
Last week’s raging wildfire on Maui left at least 89 dead and thousands of the island’s residents displaced in its wake.
Some experts have estimated that it will take years to fully repair the damage caused by the wildfire.
